Better late than never, right?

Yep, sometimes it takes a while for the coins to fall down as we say here in Sweden... I admit I was really disappointed with Nevermore's "Obsidian Conspiracy" when it was released. The production wasn't as smashing compared to what's normal for them. Also, it felt like they've reused some of their old stuff.

All of that might be true though. But today when I picked up the record, for the fourth or fifth time (I gave it a lot of spins for each session of course) it all fell into place. It sounds exactly like Nevermore shall sound. Controlled, technical, melodic, melancholic...
Warrel sounds a little strained on a few occasions and there's not as much of the high pitch vocals anymore. Still this sounds amazing. The six first songs is really perfect, and the suite with "Your Poison Throne", "Moonrise" and "And The Maiden Spoke" is just as good as any other Nevermore album. My favorites though are "Emptiness Unobstructed" and "The Blue Marble And The New Soul".
Still the title track can't measure up to "This Godless Endeavour" though...

So, this really shows that brand new reviews that are pushed out a few weeks prior to the release isn't the real ones... Would be quite cool to add another point of view after a year or two to some reviews...

Cheers

The making of...

So, it was a very creative weekend. Well, apart from Friday night though when both me and Peter were absolutely dead tired after a tough week at work. We struggeled to stay awake until 10 pm at least but the advantage, both were rested for Saturday.

he had some planned activites. The not so much fun, shop for a suitcase (since the last one was killed in the USA trip), pick up some concert tickets, get some images (photos) for the cover for the next Void Moon demo. Speaking of that one, the drums were recorded last weekend and Jonas added the guitars and kept sending samples of it during the weekend. It sure sounds AMAZING. The songs has been available in demo version, cut together from different sessions, some parts newly recorded and so on. I didn't think the demo sounded so bad but the difference between that one and the real thing... They're MILES apart. And if me and Peter can hold the same standard as Thomas and Jonas, the demo will be really good.

Right now I'm trying to figure out my last parts and go through it all to see if it's good enough and I will start recording next weekend. Hopefully the rest will be as close as done by then. Peter is recording bass during this week.

Perhaps something for the cover of the next Void Moon demo

Then the recording of the CULT OF THE FOX record has started for real. Drums for three songs has been finished and I recorded guitars for one song, Word Of Truth. a really nice midtempo mellow one. i'm not completely satisfied with the verses so I think I'll re-record them later.
Meanwhile... Here's a really cool review of the "Sea Beneath The Sand demo";

The making of Iron Jaws cover

Peter got a mission from Metalbound Records to make the cover for one of the next releases, Iron Jaws. Old School Thrash needs a Metal cover so I had to dig out the spare parts for my belt so Peter could use the studs for the cover.
Then I finished off a few reviews and live reporst, Accept being the highlight of course. I must say I'm really pleasantly surprised about the response Metal Kaoz has gotten the few weeks it has been online. that's really cool.
And Metal Temple is getting a facelift at the moment to make the page run faster.
Down town we also found an antiquarian bookseller. Normally they are extremely expensive or they don't have anything what so ever. This one was an exception, some Old School Poetry, the Hexicon (dictionary over real and fairytale figures), the Edda and a little more for like €30... Very cool! Just looking at the Hexicon, first the people who made the characters up! Then the one who searched for them and put the book together, some people have WAY too much time! But it was fun reading.
Even if we did a lot during the weekend it felt like it was over way too soon and it was time to go back to work again. This week has been really busy too, next one the same but I think it will be a little more pleasant than this still....
Cheers
